Clarksville-Montgomery County Red Cross Meeting Needs

Although the office of American Red Cross chapter in Clarksville-Montgomery County was destroyed in the flood, volunteers are delivering services to hundreds of people in their area.  The Clarksville-Montgomery Chapter is still giving support, comfort and supplies to those in need. There are still 2 open shelters and fixed feeding sites at:

Hilldale Baptist Church

1999 Madison St.

Clarksville, TN

and

First Assembly of God

700 Arlington St.

Erin, TN

People in need of help can call the American Red Cross for information at 1-866-GET-INFO.

From our friend Sarah Sandford:

In Cheatham County the Chamber of Commerce is coordinating most everything: http://cheathamchamber.org/Default.aspx?OID=41&CID=1491

That page has where to sign up to volunteer, drop off sites, etc.

Clothing and food are also available at the Bethesda Center in Ashland City.  There's a shelter set up at Sycamore High School.

  • FBC Clarksville Sr. Administrative Pastor Irby Stanley says they’re helping the Salvation Army because the SA building got flooded.  However, they don’t have any needs for us to post at this time. They will let us know if they do.

  • Hilldale Baptist, will be a Red Cross shelter. No needs at this time.

People in 10 Tennessee counties - Cheatham, Davidson, Dyer, Hickman, McNairy, Montgomery, Perry, Shelby, Tipton and Williamson - are now eligible for help from the state and the Federal Emergency Management Agency as they recover from severe spring storms, tornadoes and flooding that struck Tennessee beginning April 30.

Anyone who experienced damages in any of the designated counties may complete an online application at www.disasterassistance.gov or apply by phone by calling 800-621-FEMA (3362) or TTY 800-462-7585 for the hearing or speech-impaired. The toll-free numbers are available seven days a week, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. (CDT) until further notice.  Help in other languages is available.

State and federal disaster officials say those who have losses from the floods should apply as soon as possible and they do not have to wait for an insurance inspection to begin the registration process. Officials say they are working side-by-side with the state to move quickly to assist Tennesseans in their recovery efforts.

Filing damage reports with state or county emergency managers or voluntary agencies will not start the federal disaster assistance process. You must register to start the process.

When applying for help, be sure to have the following information available:

·         Your current telephone number.

·         Your address at the time of the disaster and the address where you now are staying.

·         Your Social Security number, if available.

·         A general list of damages and losses you suffered.

·         If insured, the name of your company or agent and your policy number.

·         Bank account coding if you wish to speed up your assistance by using direct deposit.

From the Grace Community Church Staff:

The Cumberland River is expected to rise at least another 4 feet by late this afternoon (May 3). Things are going to get worse before they get better. Most access roads to downtown Clarksville are blocked. The businesses on Riverside Drive are closed. Many roads throughout the Clarksville Montgomery County area are now closed with more closing throughout the day. Please limit your travel and concentrate on helping those in your immediate neighborhood.

DO NOT CALL THE CITY WITH OFFERS TO HELP AT THIS TIME. YOU ARE HINDERING THEIR EMERGENCY COMMUNICATION EFFORTS.

Once the water crests in a few days we will have plenty of opportunity to be hands-on for the city. We are diligently working with the Red Cross and the City of Clarksville to make every opportunity available for you to help in the coming weeks and months.

At this time our responsibility is to pray and take care of our immediate neighbors.
